The Meeting Place™
Psychomanteum
10 Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is a Psychomanteum?

A Psychomanteum is a sacred, mirror-based chamber, within sanctuary—an exclusive space where emotional reflection and spiritual presence are gently invited to unfold. By creating the ideal conditions for perception, it offers a rare opportunity to connect with the unseen, and often, with a Loved One who has passed.

It is rooted in ancient ritual and thoughtfully revived through modern grief work.  The Psychomanteum traces its origins to ancient Greece, where it was used as a ceremonial chamber for spirit communication. At sacred sites like the Oracle of the Dead at Ephyra, seekers would enter dimly lit spaces, gaze into reflective surfaces, and open themselves to messages from beyond the veil.

Today, the Psychomanteum is not about spectacle—It is about stillness, within ceremony. In silence and candlelight, the mirror becomes a portal. The veil between worlds softens, and what arises is deeply personal: memory, emotion, presence, or peace.

It is not a séance. It is not a performance. It is a sacred invitation to listen with the soul.

  1. What reasons would someone go for a session in a Psychomanteum? What can it do for me?

A session in a Psychomanteum can be a deeply introspective and emotionally transformative experience. Here’s what it might offer you:

Psychological & Emotional Benefits

  • Grief Resolution: People come for many reasons: One of the most profound uses is in grief therapy. It can offer solace, emotional release, a sense of communion, and clarity for those navigating loss or change. People mourning a loved one often report comforting visions or sensations of contact, which can bring closure and emotional healing.

Emotional Catharsis: The immersive solitude and mirror gazing can trigger deep emotional release, helping you process unresolved feelings.  It’s not just about seeing—it’s about feeling and receiving.

  • Self-Reflection: It acts as a gateway to the subconscious, to reconnect spiritually, or simply allowing you to sit with and explore personal memory, and emotion, archetypes and inner narratives in a transformative way —similar to Jungian shadow work.

Spiritual & Mystical Experiences

  • Perceived Spirit Contact: Some participants report visionary encounters with deceased loved ones, making ancestral connection, which can feel spiritually affirming and/or healing.

Expanded Consciousness: The sensory deprivation and focused gaze may induce altered states of consciousness, opening doors to mystical or transcendent experiences.

Therapeutic & Meditative Uses

  • Mindfulness and Focus: The quiet, ritualistic nature of the session promotes deep concentration and meditative calm.
  • Exploration of Identity: By confronting your own reflection in a symbolic setting, you may gain insights into your personal journey, fears, and desires.

Whether you are grieving a soulmate, a child, a parent, grandparent, sibling, spouse, a friend or a cherished, animal companion —

The Meeting Place™  is here for you.

  1. What can I experience? Is it spooky? Will I be afraid in the Psychomanteum?

While the Psychomanteum may sound mysterious, the experience is deeply tender and intentionally designed to feel safe, sacred, and gentle. You will spend quiet time in a darkened chamber, held in a space created with love and reverence for your Cherished Loved One.

Experiences vary widely:

Some clients feel a comforting presence or deep peace.

Others recall vivid memories or experience emotional release.

Many describe a sense of awe, like a gentle buzz of electricity.

Whether the experience feels “spooky” depends on your mindset. Ask yourself: would the Loved One you are seeking ever wish to frighten you? In all my years facilitating, I have never seen that happen.

If any nervousness arises, it is met with compassion and grounded support. Most clients report feeling safe, deeply moved, and lovingly held throughout their session.

  1. Will someone be around for me in case I need them?

Yes. While the mirror space inside the Psychomanteum is personal, you are never truly alone.  Your facilitator, Aileen, (Light of the Liminal) remains energetically present and physically nearby. If you ever need to end or pause the session, support is immediately available. You are held with great care throughout the entire experience. Quiet stewardship and loving vigilance surround you.

  1. How long is a Psychomanteum session?

The full ceremony at The Meeting Place™ spans 3 hours, structured as a ceremonial arc: emotional preparation, mirror work, and grounded integration. All unfolding with intention and ritual from arrival to farewell. It is sacred, honoured time.

  1. How much of that time do I spend in the actual Psychomanteum?

The mirror experience itself lasts approximately one hour. The other two hours are dedicated to emotional preparation, reflective deepening, integration, and gentle closure—each an essential part  to deepen and support the journey.

  1. What else happens at the session besides me sitting alone with the mirror?

Much more. You’ll be guided through gentle, emotional memory reflection, intention setting, intuitive dialogue and grounding rituals. After the mirror, integration unfolds through journaling, reflective conversation, and symbolic closure.

Also available, are several optional, add-on items/experiences, you may wish to purchase to optimize your session.  These options will be offered to you, when you are booking your session.

You may book your session by contacting Aileen at:  [email protected]

  1. How do I know if my facilitator is qualified? Can I share such intimate details? Are the sessions confidential?

Your facilitator, Aileen, (who’s name means Bright, Shining Light) is deeply experienced in spiritual holding, emotional care, and grief work. In addition, she has spent the past three years, specifically preparing to offer these Psychomanteum sessions to the public. Known as  Light of the Liminal, Aileen offers a deeply attuned, nonjudgmental presence and emotionally safe space for sacred transformation. Confidentiality is sacred. What arises in session, stays held within its walls.

Emotional safety is central to every step.

  1. Will I really see or interact with my dead Loved One?

Every possibility is here, yes. Some have seen, and/or interacted with their Loved One. Some clients feel presence. Some receive messages, memories, or sensory impressions. Others simply feel profound peace.  There are no promises-only possibilities. The experience unfolds uniquely for each soul. Whatever arises is gently honoured.

Additionally, to your experience while inside the Psychomanteum:

After your desire for connection has been heard during your session, a veil is lifted.  A door opened.  Some have experienced a visitation after leaving The Meeting Place™ even up to one or two weeks later!
