The very first time I gave a ‘distant reiki’ session, I was in the classroom learning how to do it. I experienced such wonderful phenomena my very first time, that I knew without a doubt,
it was real and it worked!

There were five of us in the classroom and we’d all been told to bring in a ‘surrogate’ (various stuffed animals to use as ‘proxy’ for a healing session) to practise on.

In my case, I brought along a Donkey-brown coloured, furry Teddy Bear about a foot in length, my beloved German Shepherd ‘Shane’s,’ favourite, cuddle toy.

We were told to put a name to our surrogate for the one to which we would be ‘sending’ Reiki. We would begin our session using the ‘Distance’ Reiki symbol and our intention to send Reiki.

Significantly, we were reminded to be very gentle with our surrogates and treat them with the same loving care we would if they were lying on the reiki table in front of us.

I decided since after all, it was Shane’s Teddy Bear, I’d send the Reiki to him.

I did exactly what I was told and was soon feeling the delicious warm sensation of Reiki flowing through me and out my hands, into my surrogate, ‘Shane’. I began to Reiki Shane’s heart chakra area, as this was a weak point for him.

Now my Reiki Master had neglected to mention in class that what happened next, was a possibility so I was shocked to say the least, when it happened right in front of my eyes!

I felt a Heart Beat on the Teddy Bear!

My eyes, now wide as saucers, blinking repeatedly, I looked around at the other 4 practitioners to see if anyone else was seeing this, but their eyes were all closed, deeply engrossed with their own surrogates. I didn’t notice anybody else’s Teddy Bears ‘breathing’ or pulsating or?? or levitating?? or???

I looked back down at my Teddy Bear and sure enough, ‘thump-thump’, chest-rising, ‘thump thump’ chest-lowering!! I simply couldn’t believe what I was seeing!

But I know what I felt and saw beneath my hands! There was simply no denying it…

This little Donkey-brown bear was Shane!

Once our 30 minute ‘distance session’ ended, we gathered round, and our Reiki Master asked us to relay our experiences. I was a little hesitant to mention it, after the others spoke of ‘feelings of peace, flooding them’, ‘feelings of joy’, ‘waves of warm & tingly’, but I figured, if not here then, where, right?

So I just said it like it happened, putting it out there, my experience in front of the class.

“I may be crazy, but I swear I felt a heart beat on my Teddy Bear while I was ‘Reiki’ing it.”

Much to my relief, unfazed, my Reiki Master said very matter of fact, “Yes I know, I was watching you at the time and I saw the heart beat on the teddy bear as well”…. She further divulged, that it is fairly common where the ‘proxy’ will manifest such phenomenon, so Always treat your ‘proxy’ like it is the ‘real thing’ when you are working on it. Well holy cow!!!

Weeks later, my Mother underwent hip replacement surgery.
It had taken much longer than we were expecting….
Something hadn’t gone well during the operation, in fact, (we much later learned) they thought she might have suffered a heart attack. I arrived at the hospital, just as the Doctor came out to our family in the waiting room outside of recovery.
He told us they were having trouble stabilizing her and no one would be allowed in to see her until she did.

I immediately pulled out my surrogate Teddy Bear, designated now as, ‘Mom’ and began Reiki’ing. An hour passed, then all of a sudden, my surrogate, ‘Mom’ Teddy Bear’s heart began to beat steady and strong, just as it had done in my Reiki classroom weeks earlier.

I felt a great wave of peace come over me. I looked up and around to the very silent waiting room where the rest of my worried and exhausted family were.

I broke the silence with, “Mom’s feeling stronger now, I can feel it. They will let us know she’s stabilized and we can see her very soon.” Just as I finished the sentence, the emergency nurse came out and told us that Mom had stabilized, and we could go in and see her now. When I went in, I told her that I had been Reiki’ing her while she was in recovery and she groggily said, ‘I know, I felt it on my heart, thank you.”

Later that evening, my Sister mentioned to me that she too, saw the ‘heart-beating’ on the Teddy Bear and if she hadn’t been so completely exhausted, she would have had a much different reaction!

Oh and then there was once a day when I was on the phone with my Mom when the nurse came in and needed to take some blood…I heard the nurse complaining that she couldn’t ‘find a vein’ and get any blood… I felt my Mom’s pain as the nurse kept poking at her and poking…. so I told Mom I would start ‘Reiki for her and the nurse’.
My Mom told the nurse and not 30 seconds later she said, ‘o.k. tell your daughter to stop, I found a ‘gusher’ …

I was amazed at the ‘power’ of Reiki once more 🙂
